Everyone that heard the story empathized...until the truth came out, that is.
A 28-year-old Vancouver Washington woman, Bethany Storro, claimed a black woman with a ponytail threw acid in her face at night on August 30 as she was celebrating a new job and had just bought a pair of sunglasses. But after authorities began discovering holes in her story, Storro canceled a confirmed Oprah appearance and tried to lay low.
Originally, Storro, who police say is in a fragile mental state, claimed her ficitious African American attacker said, "Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?" before splashing the acid that burned her face.
But the splash patterns of the acid, and other parts of Storro's story, like wearing sunglasses at night, and being able to so easily hear this woman even though Storro is hearing impaired, didn't add up for the police. Finally, she confessed.
Here is the original story.
